Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

Last month, I had the privilege of leading the craft at YoungLives and I wanted to teach the girls something that I knew that they would use. Since most of the girls that attend club love wearing every shade of lipstick, I thought they'd get a kick out of making brown sugar lip scrub to use before they pretty themselves up! I found a basic recipe while browsing through Pinterest, but I made a few adjustments that made it a little bit better.

Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon Organic coconut oil
-3 teaspoons Brown sugar
-1 teaspoon Honey

Simple ingredients, right? I know! What you do is mix all three of your ingredients together to get a gritty, sweet tasting concoction. What you do is scrub your lips with your brown sugar lip scrub for about a minute and then just lick it off (thats my favorite part)! By doing this, you're exfoliating the dead skin off of your lips so that you get a smooth application when you put lipstick on. Gotta love being a girl! Who wouldn't want to kiss baby soft lips? For best results, I apply Chapstick after I scrub my lips so that they're extra soft!

Matthew 5

Never have I ever dreamt about a Bible verse, let alone a chapter, but last night I did!

All day Matthew chapter 5 has been popping up in my thoughts, so I finally sat down and opened up my Bible to see what it had to say. Unfortunately, I don't have the best memory so I didn't know what Matthew had in store for me when I flipped to the correct page. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Introduction to the Sermon on the Mount, and smiled.

Matthew 5:3-10 -
"Blessed are the poor in sprit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

I will always love this passage of scripture! What comes next is what really made me smile, though.

Matthew 5:14-16 -
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

These verses made me so happy because I am constantly praying for my YoungLives teen mothers to be a LIGHT amongst their peers. These girls are facing tough challenges in life; they have more responsibility than most of the college students I've met so far at Cal State Fullerton. Even though they may not have it as easy as other people, these girls keep coming back to YoungLives every month to learn about Jesus and I can clearly see what God has been working on in their lives. These girls are already light to their peers and I pray that over time their light becomes blinding!

Its just so amazing that I had a dream about a chapter in the Bible that correlates to something I pray about every single day (and that I had NO idea!). It was definitely a God thing, and I had to share!

Happy Juice

So, I'm not one to jump on the juice craze BUT I did make a pretty fabulous juice this morning! I appropriately named it "happy juice," because whenever I feel like I've done something good for my body it makes me happy! This juice only has three ingredients because I'm working my way up to those green-spinach-and-kale-filled juices. In other words, I'm a baby. Anyways! Here's the secret recipe...

Happy Juice
-Makes 1 cup

-1 whole apple, I chose a Fuji apple but you can use any kind you'd like
-2 large carrots
-4 strawberries (to mask the carrot flavor, ha)

Yep, basically all you do is stick those babies in the juicer and BAM you have your very own happy juice! I'm sure my recipes will be more healthy and complex as I keep experimenting!

Have a happy day!
